Glock 19 Grip Length - We use the word "revolutionary" to refer to new products in the firearms world. However, there are very few guns that revolutionize the gun industry.
When Glock introduced the G17, it changed everything we knew about handguns. The company quickly followed with its little brother, the Glock 19. There are some subtle (and not so subtle) differences between the two guns. In this post, we'll take a look at them and see how they relate to each other.

Gaston Glock developed the Glock Model 17 in the early 1980s as a competitor to the Austrian Army's 9mm service pistol. It was not the first production rifle to use a polymer frame (that honor went to the H&K VP70), nor was it the first pistol to use a striker-fired action. The genius of the Glock 17 is how it took these elements and combined them into a simple, lightweight gun that was light and accurate.

The Model 19 is the third handgun produced by Glock. (The Model 18 was a version of the Model 17 selected for fully automatic fire, designed for the Austrian counter-terrorism unit). It takes all the functionality and features of the Glock 17 and slims them down a bit to make a more compact gun.
As we mentioned, Glock originally designed the Model 17l for the Austrian Army. Thus, it was to be worn by soldiers in the field. Its accuracy, ruggedness and light weight make it an attractive choice for people. But most shooters need a slightly smaller pistol.
Over the years, Glock has updated the design of its pistols. They've added features like textured handles and finger grooves for a better grip, as well as interchangeable back straps to better fit your hand. In the latest Gen 5 models, they changed the internal mechanism a bit. We looked at the Gen 4 Model 17 and Model 19 for comparison. Both have proven to be quiet, reliable performers for civilians, soldiers and law enforcement.
There are few differences between the Glock 17 and the Glock 19 in your hand. Although the Model 19 is slightly shorter, the guns are identical.

Both guns are the same width (1.26 inches) and the same distance from the rear of the slide to the ejection port. Both the Gen 4 Model 17 and Model 19 are interchangeable, but the backs of the Model 17 are not compatible with the Model 19 and vice versa. The Glock 19 in our photos is my personal Model 19. It has a rear strap with a small extension near the slide, which is different from the one used by the Model 17.
Both pistols have different heights. The Glock 17 standard magazine holds 17 rounds and the Glock 19 standard magazine holds 15 rounds. At 5.47 inches, the Model 17 has a bezel less than half an inch smaller than the Model 19's 5.04 inches. The Model 17 weighs 32.3 ounces. The smaller model 19 weighs 23.6 ounces.
Where you see the biggest difference between the Glock 17 and the Glock 19 is the barrel and slide length. The Gen 4 Model 17 has a slide length of 7.32 inches and a barrel length of 4.49 inches. The Glock 19 has a slide length of 6.85 inches and a barrel length of 4.02 inches.
Due to the different barrel and slide lengths, the cleaning springs are not interchangeable between the two. However, all fireproof parts on the frame are interchangeable between the two guns.
Sig P320 Vs Glock 19: Which Is Best For You?
We tested the Glock 17 and Glock 19 for accuracy using three brands of 9mm ammunition:
Both guns are resting on a target 15 yards away. We tested average velocity and average group size using a Prochrono digital chronograph that was mounted on the muzzle of each pistol. During testing, the temperature was 85 degrees with 85 degrees of humidity.
Glock 17s were much more controllable than Glock 19s. However, both pistols performed very well in our accuracy tests. The long barrel of the Glock 17 allows you to shoot more of the powder inside the cartridge. This resulted in slightly higher velocities for the Glock 17 and the Glock 19.
Since its military debut, the Glock 17 has found a home in the homes of law enforcement officers around the world. Weighing only two kilograms, it changed the look of the pistol.

However, the Glock 17 is never concealed. The long frame of the Model 17 means that the pistol's color pops out a bit too much under the hidden stone armor. This makes it difficult to hide. However, in recent years, the popularity of the under-the-waistband (AIWB) accessory has increased interest in using the Glock 17 as a concealed handgun. A long, long pistol is very comfortable to carry in this position.
With 15 rounds of 9mm in its magazine, a four-inch barrel, a good trigger and a compact size, the Glock 19 is one of the best pistols for concealed carry. It's easy to conceal in the waistband, has great accessories, and has a reputation for reliability that other pistols on the market love.
However, the two extra rounds in the Glock 17 give it a slight edge over the Glock 19. The Glock 17's slightly longer slide (and thus longer sight radius) also gives the Glock 17 a slight edge in accuracy.
It all depends on what you are looking for. If you need a handgun to protect your home, it's hard to find a better one than the Glock 17. This rifle also performs well in practical shooting competitions. For everyday concealed carry, practice and training, the Glock 19 is the standard by which all compact 9mm pistols are judged. Either way, you'll be locked into a reliable, accurate pistol that's been a market leader for decades.

When I picked up a Glock 30 pistol a few years ago, I noticed that I felt like I was holding a potato. I felt my hand full
Compared to other pistols I've held in my hand. Not bad, just a lot stronger than most. I must have liked it because I bought it just two months later.
Full disclosure: Most of the pistols I review are new to me, and my review is all about first impressions. Not so in this case. I had the original G30 before the 30S was released and sold the G30 in 2014 to get the G30S model. It's lighter and thinner than the original model, and it's a gem of a pistol; A .45 caliber thumper in a compact frame that fits me. Aside from being chambered in .45 ACP, the Glock 30S is probably my favorite pistol.
The first and last reason to consider any type of Glock pistol is simplicity and reliability. There is no lighter and more reliable pistol on the planet than the Glock. Additionally, the G30S is designed for concealed carry—it's a compact version of the Glock 21 duty pistol. So you might want to consider carrying the G30S for easy concealment (it's slightly smaller than the G19).
Glock G17 Vs Glock G19 Size Comparison
You may want to consider the G30S for its .45 chambering, as most people prefer the larger caliber round over the smaller caliber rounds. If you have larger hands, you may want to consider the 30S for a stronger grip radius. It's a double stock .45, so it has a meaty grip that fills the hand. Despite the large chamber, large rounds in the magazine, and beefy body, the G30S is a relatively heavy pistol at over 30 ounces, loaded.
The Glock 30S is a slightly smaller version of the G30. Primary features are a slimmer slide width (1.12 as opposed to 1) and lower slide-assembly weight (it's a full 3.5 ounces lighter than the G30's slide assembly), and with the SF frame, the 30S gains a slightly shorter trigger. . and a fixed radius relative to the ground
